Sou Quarteira is a movement that celebrates and amplifies the urban and creative spirit of the city of Quarteira, which includes various activities and events like a documentary, a photo exhibition and a two-day music festival. I was responsible for their brand identity.

Sou Quarteira is a movement to celebrate and amplify the urban and creative spirit of the city of Quarteira, which includes various activities and events like a documentary, a photo exhibition and a two day music festival. I was responsible for their brand identity.

Sou Quarteira is a movement that celebrates and amplifies the urban and creative spirit of the city of Quarteira, which includes various activities and events like a documentary, a photo exhibition and a two-day music festival. I was responsible for their brand identity.

It is the second year for Sou Quarteira hosting not only a two-day music festival, but also cooperating with local photographers, musicians, filmmakers and choreographers on several activites. There were also a specially created music tune togheter with a unique dance choreography, an open air photo exhibtion and a documentary for the national television. On top came a small but dedicated social media and billboard campaign.

The goal was to give Sou Quarteira a dynamic identity that captures the idea of ​​the movement. The concept focuses on movement, change and transformation. It has to be a versatile and modern identity, which always looks familiar while adapting to the different activities of the movement. Accessable guidelines have to make it easy to create further assets.

Logo

We gave the logo a light refresh, through which we explored ways in which we could express the core attributes of the Sou Quarteira Initiative – movement, change and transition.

We asked ourselves, what if we take single elements of the logo to create the key visuals? We started to play with logo shapes and tested what is possible.

The use of the logo from the previous year was mandadory. After a light refresh we were exploring in which ways we can express the core attributes - movement, change and transition - of the Sou Quarteira Initiative.

Key visuals

We took parts of the logo and morphed them into each other. By rotating and twisting them, we gained these vibrant shapes and lines. To control smoothness or vibrance we adjust the number of steps.

This provides dynamic patterns with a unique rhythm that are perfectly in coherance with the brand attributes.

Type and imagery

Additional rules for use of type and images to make sure that the visual concept of repetition and layering of different shapes and lines  comes across clearly through all upcoming use cases. 

The rules were easy to apply yet strong and flexible to create a coherent brand appearance.

The 3000 festival tickets were sold out in after a few days. Exhibition and the premiere of the documentary have gained tremendous positive feedback especially from the city's people.  The documentrary will be shown nationwide.
